How it works

One run a day. One skill at a time.

  1. 1

    Play the Daily.

A quick run with three hearts. String right answers together and the questions get harder and the points multiply.

  2. 2

    Miss one, learn why.

Every question is tagged by domain and skill, and every answer comes with an explanation.

  3. 3

    Drill that skill.

Practice any single skill at any difficulty, or just the questions you got wrong.

  4. 4

    Beat your best.

Come back tomorrow and climb. Progress shows your accuracy and your strongest skills.

Built around the real SAT blueprint.

Every question is tagged by section, domain, skill and difficulty, so you can practice exactly what you need. Full tests run like test day: two Reading & Writing modules, a break, then two Math modules.

Explanations

Every answer, explained.

Not just the right letter: how to get there, and why the tempting answer is wrong.

A store raises the price of a jacket by 20%. Later, it lowers the new price by 20%. The final price is what percent of the original price?

A80%
B96%Correct
C100%The trap
D104%

Check with $100: $100then$120then$96

  1. Turn each change into a multiplier.

    Up 20% means × 1.20. Down 20% means × 0.80.

  2. Apply them in order.

    1.20 × 0.80 = 0.96

  3. Read the answer.

The final price is 96% of the original. That’s B.

  4. Why not 100%?

The 20% cut is taken from the higher price, so it removes more than the 20% increase added.

Yes. In the standard full-length tests, Module 2 of each section is the harder version if you get 60% or more of Module 1 right, and the easier version if you don’t. Challenge tests use the hardest material throughout.

Official timing, extended 1.5× time, or untimed, on every test, including the free ones. Extended time allows 48 minutes for each Reading & Writing module and about 52 for each Math module. Untimed removes the clock so you can focus on accuracy.

A quick run with three hearts. Each right answer builds your streak: the questions get harder as it grows, and your points multiply (×2 from three in a row, ×3 from six). A miss costs a heart and drops you back to easy. Best is your longest streak.

Words in Context · Lesson 2

Contrast clues and the reversal trap

Some clues work by contrast. Words such as although, but, yet, however, despite, unlike, while, rather than and instead tell you that two parts of the passage point in opposite directions.

When a contrast word separates the blank from the clue, predict a word that points the other way: either against the clue itself (crowded early paintings, sparse late ones) or against what the clue would lead you to expect (a book of only ninety pages that is still thorough). If the clue is positive, the blank is usually negative. In Although the first test flights went smoothly, the third was , the first part is positive, so the blank needs a negative word such as troubled. Then check for negatives near the blank, which can flip it again.

Some contrasts are about expectation. Words and phrases such as surprisingly, contrary to and challenge that view signal that one part of the passage goes against what people assumed. Find the assumption and check which side the blank is on: if the blank describes the surprising result, predict the opposite of the assumption; if the blank is inside the assumption itself, predict a word that matches it.

Watch for negatives too. Far from flips the meaning of the words after it: someone who is far from generous is stingy. In not X but Y, Y replaces X and usually contrasts with it: not timid but bold. A phrase such as dismissing ... as is different: it needs a belittling word, and the writer may then reject that label (dismissing the plan as reckless would be unfair). Work out what the whole phrase must mean before you predict.

Worked example Easy

Before the city added a tax on sugary drinks, many economists predicted that the tax would barely change what shoppers bought. Yet a two-year study of grocery-store sales found that purchases of the taxed drinks fell .

Which choice completes the text with the most logical and precise word or phrase?

  1. slightly
  2. sharplyAnswer
  3. predictably
  4. quietly

How to solve it

  1. Cover the choices. Yet signals a contrast: the study's result went against the economists' prediction.
  2. The prediction was that the tax would barely change purchases. The opposite of barely changing is changing a lot. Predict a lot or steeply.
  3. Sharply means steeply, by a large amount.

Why each choice is right or wrong

  • A. Incorrect. Slightly agrees with the economists' prediction that the tax would barely change purchases, but Yet signals that the result went against that prediction.
  • B. Correct. Yet sets the result against the prediction that the tax would barely change purchases, so the drop must have been large. Sharply means steeply, by a large amount.
  • C. Incorrect. Predictably would mean the drop was expected, but the economists expected almost no change. Yet tells you the result went against what they predicted.
  • D. Incorrect. Quietly describes how much notice something attracts, not how big it is. The contrast with barely change is about the size of the change, so the blank must describe size.

Worked example Medium

For decades, biologists treated slime molds as organisms: simple, brainless blobs that crept toward food and did little else. Experiments in Hana Okafor's laboratory challenge that view. Her team found that a single slime mold can find the shortest route through a maze and avoid areas it has already searched.

Which choice completes the text with the most logical and precise word or phrase?

  1. sophisticated
  2. sociable
  3. rudimentaryAnswer
  4. hazardous

How to solve it

  1. Cover the choices. The blank sits in the old view of slime molds, and the colon restates that view: simple, brainless blobs.
  2. Challenge that view signals a contrast. The maze results describe the new view, so they point the opposite way from the word you need.
  3. Predict basic or simple. Rudimentary means basic and undeveloped.

Why each choice is right or wrong

  • A. Incorrect. This is the reversal trap. Sophisticated describes what Okafor's experiments suggest, but the blank is in the view her work challenges. The old view called slime molds simple.
  • B. Incorrect. Sociable would mean slime molds seek out others, but the passage says nothing about how they treat one another. The old view stresses that they did little else but creep toward food.
  • C. Correct. The old view, restated after the colon, is that slime molds are simple, brainless blobs. Rudimentary means basic and undeveloped, which matches.
  • D. Incorrect. Nothing in the passage says slime molds are dangerous. The old view is about how simple they are.

Trap The word from the other side of the contrast

In a contrast passage, one wrong choice usually describes the other half of the passage. It feels right because it matches words you just read. Before you choose, check which side of the contrast word the blank is on.

Trap The missed signal

Contrast signals can hide in the middle of a long passage: yet, still, only to, challenge that view. If you miss the signal, you will predict a word that agrees with the clue when it should oppose it. Find the signal before you predict.
