ACT® Composite calculator
Type in your English, Math and Reading scores to get your Composite, rounded the way ACT rounds it. Add Science to see your STEM score.
Composite
27
Average of English, Math and Reading: 27, rounded to 27.
- STEM25Average of Math and Science: 24.5
- Science24Reported on its own, not in the Composite.
This is a calculation from the scores you enter, not an official score. Treat it as an estimate until your ACT score report arrives. It runs in your browser and saves nothing.
How the Composite is worked out
- Add English, Math and Reading. In the example above: 27 + 25 + 29 = 81.
- Divide by 3. 81 ÷ 3 = 27.
- Round to a whole number. Below one-half rounds down; one-half or more rounds up. The Composite is 27.
The average of three whole numbers always ends in .00, .33 or .67, so the Composite never lands exactly on one-half. The half-up rule matters for STEM: Math 31 and Science 30 average 30.5, which rounds up to a STEM score of 31.
Science is reported on its own and does not change your Composite. Writing, if you take it, is scored 2 to 12 and does not change it either.
Superscoring
ACT can build a superscore from your best English, Math and Reading scores across every date you tested. Say you scored English 26, Math 28, Reading 24 on one date and English 29, Math 26, Reading 27 on another. Your best scores are 29, 28 and 27, so your superscore Composite is 28. You choose whether to send colleges one test date or your superscore, and each college decides how it uses them.

Questions
Is this my official ACT score?
No. It is a calculation from the section scores you type in, using the rule ACT publishes. Treat it as an estimate until you see your official score report, which is the only official Composite.
Why doesn’t Science count toward my Composite?
On the enhanced ACT the Composite is the average of English, Math and Reading only. Science is optional and reported on its own, and it feeds the STEM score.
How is the STEM score rounded?
ACT says STEM is the average of Math and Science. It does not restate the rounding rule for STEM, so this calculator uses the same rule as the Composite: one-half or more rounds up.
Can I turn the number of questions I got right into a 1–36 score here?
No. ACT converts right answers to a 1–36 score with a table made for each test form, and Peakscor does not copy or approximate those tables. Peakscor’s full-length ACT practice tests show an estimated score from our own model.
