Yes. In the standard full-length tests, Module 2 of each section is the harder version if you get 60% or more of Module 1 right, and the easier version if you don’t. Challenge tests use the hardest material throughout.

Writing an equation from words
Word problems turn a situation into an equation. The SAT either asks which equation represents the situation or asks you to solve it and give a number.
Start by naming the unknown. The question usually does it for you: * months of membership, hours of work*.
Then sort every number in the story into one of two roles. A rate comes with each unit of the unknown: 25 dollars per month, 12 liters each minute. It multiplies the variable. A fixed amount happens once: a sign-up fee, a starting balance, a delivery charge. It stands alone.
The most common pattern is total = fixed amount + rate × quantity, such as . If something goes down, such as water draining or money being spent, the rate is subtracted: . For distance, distance = rate × time, with the time in the same units as the rate. Read order words carefully too: 5 less than 3 times a number is , not .
To test a choice quickly, substitute an easy value such as into its left side and ask whether you get what the story says two months should cost (in the gym example below, 40 + 2 × 25 = 90 dollars). Avoid : an equation that charges the fee every month, such as , gives the same result as the correct one when . Only the correct equation matches the story for every value.

A gym charges a one-time sign-up fee of 40 dollars plus 25 dollars for each month of membership. Mariana paid a total of 240 dollars for the sign-up fee and months of membership.
